CREATING IMPACTFUL CHANGE IN OUR COMMUNITY

NEWS UPDATES/important upcoming dates

January 29th, 2020

All, we are in the homestretch of the event planning now! As so, we will not be having any more formal meetings. Instead we have decided that it's best to meet separately with specific groups and/or individuals involved with the project. Most notably, we realized that it was a top priority to meet with our event day volunteers and vendors. We have scheduled two meetings for each group. If you are planning to volunteer, to ensure everything goes smoothly on event day we are asking you to attend at least one of these meetings. If you are an interested vendor, we are also asking that you attend at least one of these meetings, or plan to send someone in your place.

Volunteer Meeting #1: Tuesday, February 25th, 5:30-6:30 PM @Longleaf Pine Realtors Association (2412 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28305)

Interested Vendors Meeting #1: Wednesday, February 26th, 5:30-6:30 PM @Longleaf Pine Realtors Association (2412 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28305)

Interested Vendors Meeting #2: Tuesday, March 3rd, 5:30-6:30 PM @Longleaf Pine Realtors Association (2412 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28305)

Volunteer Meeting #2: Wednesday, March 4th, 5:30-6:30 PM @Longleaf Pine Realtors Association (2412 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28305)

If you absolutely can't make either of these and you plan on participating in the event please reach out to Eric, evitale@co.cumberland.nc.us or Angie, angie@longleafpinerealtors.com. With that being said, I can't stress enough, the importance of attending these meetings. We have been working extremely hard to make this event a success and we can't do that without ensuring these two groups have been properly prepared for event day. Also, if do not fit into either one of these two groups, please do not attend these meetings. These meetings are an important part of logistically planning and we do not wish to waste the time of people participating, but feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. Thank you to all who have helped make this happen and I can't wait for March 7th! 38 days and counting!

Best,

Eric

ABOUT THE EVENT /

Better Block Fay NC is a demonstration project to recreate an area for half a day to show what it could look like if it was more bicycle and pedestrian friendly and a place where people want to be. By reducing  traffic lanes to create a barrier between automobiles and pedestrians, and adding bike lanes, crosswalks, benches, and greenery, we can create a place that everybody can use and enjoy; and the better block project does it in a fun and entertaining way with music, art, food, and more.

The purpose of the project is to attract people to an area and demonstrate potential future ideas for increasing safety, making the area more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly, bringing together the community, and boosting the economy. The demand to be able to safely walk and bike in the area is rising but Fayetteville’s current walkability ranking of last out of all major cities isn’t, which makes it the perfect location for this type of project.

With Fayetteville being such an active and engaged community with so much potential all we need to do is find a way to showcase that potential then we could make some great things happen here. And that’s exactly what we set out to achieve with Better Block Fay NC.
